Thursday, Oct. 17

6:15-7:30 PM:

Bill Hatcher's book PRINCIPLES OF FLIGHT was judged a finalist in the 2018-19 National Indie Excellence Awards in Social and Political Change. Set before, during, and after 9/11 and the wars that followed, and filled with spectacular scenes of flights over the African savanna and Alaskan glaciers, Principles of Flight is a memoir of grand adventure as well as a psychosocial inquiry into the hyper-masculinism that has dominated the world.

Book Release Party

Saturday, Oct. 26

with Martha Kennedy

2-3:30 PM:

Martha Kennedy celebrates the release of her new book AS A BABY DUCK LISTENS TO THUNDER.  In 1982, only six years after the death of Mao Zedong and the end of the Cultural Revolution, Monte Vista resident Martha Kennedy
accepted a position as a Foreign Expert in English at South China Teacher’s University in Guangzhou. AS A BABY DUCK LISTENS TO THUNDER tells the story of her experiences in a newly opened China. Living in university housing, shopping, cooking, adjusting to a radically different culture, traveling and living as a Chinese professor for a year, it was the adventure of a lifetime.
