welcome!

A little history

For more than 40 years, Narrow Gauge Newsstand served the San Luis Valley from its historic brick building in downtown Alamosa.
There was a legendary array of magazines, well-curated bookshelves, and the welcoming smell of freshly popped popcorn.
The store closed in March 2018.

A plan to reopen

After a powerful and concerted effort by the community, and with the blessing of former owner John Duffy, the space was revived as the Narrow Gauge Book Co-op. We sell new and used books, a small assortment of local foods and goods. The store also hosts events such as open-mic nights, book signings, book clubs, and writing workshops.

How you can help

As a community-funded, volunteer-staffed bookstore we are always in need of investors, members, and volunteers. We'd love for you to become a part of the best independent bookstore in the San Luis Valley.
